Campus Safety and Security
Safety is a cheap and effective insurance policy and that, is something we can all live with. Sandy, a member of the security unit on campus explains the important security do’s and don’ts, and also how we can make our campus safer and live comfortably in our environment by being cautious.
What are the security do’s that should always be followed?
Students should always follow the rules in the school handbook. Following the rules in the handbook enables all students to receive the full benefits of quality safety and security services provided by the GCCC security unit. Students should also be aware of their surrounding and the people around them. Please call security if you are being harassed or stalked, campus security also provides escort services if needed. Know the campus security number! It can be found on page 26 of the student handbook and if the security staff cannot handle the situation call 911.
What are the security don’ts?
Do not leave your keys in your car or the car unlocked. Do not park in an unloading or fire lane. Also, do not speed, text or drive while intoxicated or under the influence of drugs. Do not do drugs or drink on campus as the security unit will issue tickets which will be a warning until the third ticket, after the third the individual will be asked to pay a fine.
If you need to talk to a member of the unit the GCCC Safety and Security Building is located in the Physical Plant building. The security unit is there to fulfill its responsibility in ensuring safety for each member of the college community but we all need to be cautious because safety is something we can definitely live with.
